Georgia on my Mind .....Granite on my Countertops
Those of us fortunate enough to live in Georgia know that we have the best state in the Union. Those of us fortunate enough to have granite counter tops know that we have the best counter top surface in the world!
Those of you who have not yet experienced the pride of owning granite counter tops need to get on board by visiting us at www.MrMarbleUSA.com
Shameless marketing attempt to drive people to our business website accomplished!
Seriously though, I do want to brag on my home state a little bit today. Those of you who have not yet experienced the pride of being a Georgian....."time's a wastin"
Specifically, let's talk about what's been on every one's mind besides tomorrow's election....the ECONOMY and how Georgia's economy is set to rebound quicker than other states.
First, let me give a "shout out" to my hometown of Valdosta which was recently named by Forbes magazine as one of 10 U.S. cities that are "recession proof" because of its diversified industry, excellent university and top-notch Air Force Base. Community pride and aggressive business leaders have made Georgia's gateway to Florida a city on the move. Coastal Georgia is booming as well due in large part to our bustling port cities of Savannah and Brunswick. Northwest Georgia is set for growth with new KIA and Volkswagen plants, as well as the ancillary industries that support those plants , being built.
Atlanta, the crown jewel of the Southeast, has seen its share of economic downturn due in large part to the housing slump but the good news is that it sustained the brunt of the carnage and is now poised to shake it off quicker and move out of it quicker.
According to Jeffrey Humphreys, director of the Selig Center for Economic Growth at the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia , there are several forces to thank for a turnaround beginning the final quarter of 2008. That is when sales of new homes are projected to bottom out....meaning new construction spending will increase in 2009 with single family home permits rising by as much as 10%. He credits builders with abruptly suspending new construction when sales flattened and discounting their inventory of homes. The supply of new homes also had the effect of lessening the effect of depreciating home values for existing homes.
Other factors he credits for the region's housing recovery include the fact that the investor driven home price bubble never occurred in such magnitude that is could "burst", the $7,500 first -time home buyer credit, and projected state population growth of 1.8%,twice the national average!
All in all.......some good reasons to keep Georgia.....on my mind!
